Indoor running tracks near you

Indoor tracks are what keep you running when the weather won't cooperate. They live in field houses, armories, university rec centers, and dedicated athletic facilities, and most are 200-meter ovals — half the size of a standard outdoor track, so it takes eight laps to make a mile instead of four, and the tighter, sometimes banked turns come around fast. That short, sheltered loop is exactly what you want in January: no ice, no wind, no dark-by-5pm problem, and a measured, cushioned surface for winter base miles and interval work. Many are banked at the corners to help you hold speed. Some are free community or school tracks; others — armories and marquee facilities like The Armory in New York — run paid hours or memberships, so it's worth checking access before you go. There are 572 tracks indoor tracks in this directory, across 49 states — the cold-state essential. Find the closest one on the map, or browse by state below.

Indoor or outdoor?

Indoor tracks win on certainty — open in any weather, measured, cushioned, and lit, so a winter interval session always happens. The trade-offs are a shorter 200m lap (more turns, and you switch direction some days to even out the wear on your legs) and, at some venues, paid access. Outdoor tracks give you the full 400m oval and are usually free and open, but they're at the mercy of the sky. Many towns have both.
